Former Tourism Minister facing charges of sexual harassment has left the country after the government released his passport.

Following the allegations of sexual harassment against Ali Waheed, his passport was seized by the state until the investigation was completed. However, at yesterday’s hearing at the Criminal Court, Ali Waheed requested the permission to go abroad for medical treatment.

Criminal Court told One Online today that a doctor was brought in yesterday to validate Ali Waheed’s claim to medical treatment abroad. And after the doctor’s statement, the court decided that there is no objection for Ali Waheed to leave especially with a responsible person assigned.

Upon the orders from the Criminal Court, Immigration released the former Tourism Minister’s passport yesterday.

Ali Waheed was removed from his position as the Minister of Tourism on 9 July 2020 after multiple employees came forward with allegations of sexual harassment by meeting the President and brought it to his attention.

The Prosecutor General’s Office sent seven charges against Ali Waheed in November Over the course of the investigation, his phone and laptop were seized while statements were taken from 15 people.
