A total of 137 people has tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 24 hours raising the total number of cases in the Maldives to 16,547.

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has said from 6 p.m. yesterday to 6 p.m. today, 110 people tested positive for COVID-19 from the Male’ Area along with 20 people from the resorts and the atolls.

There has been a spike in daily COVID cases since last week the daily figures above 100 despite the low number of cases in December 2020.

Meanwhile, HPA reported that 53 people have recovered from COVID-19 in the past 24 hours raising the total number of recoveries in the country to 14,472 with another 2,014 people still in treatment.

So far, there have been 54 COVID-related fatalities in the Maldives that includes 47 locals, six Bangladeshi nationals and a man from Philippines.
