CEO of the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), Adam Azim has said that the government will be paying back the financial losses to the MTCC as a cost of running the High-Speed Ferry Network.

The government has contracted MTCC to carry out the first phase f he Integrated National Public Ferry Network.

Speaking on the details of the project on TVM’s “Fasmanzaru” program las night, Azim said that the high-speed ferry service provided by MTCC is fast, safe and would be reducing 30-minute journeys to 10 minutes.

The first phase of the project entails a ferry network to connect all 41 islands of Haa Alifu Atoll, Haa Dhaalu Atoll and Shaviyani Atoll with 14 speed bats and three back-up launches. Azim said that the launches that would be used would be able to travel 35 km per hour with a capacity of 40 passengers and would be equipped with air-conditioning and television.

The MTCC CEO said that the government has pledge an aid of MVR 57 million to mobilize the project.

MTCC aims to provide the service at the end of September 2021.
