The new variant of COVID-19 has been found in Sri Lanka.

Sri Lankan authorities have confirmed that he new variant initially discovered in the UK has now been fund in Sri Lanka as well.

The Chief Epidemiologist at the Sri Lankan Ministry of Health, Dr. Sudath Samaraweera said hat the new variant was found on a person who traveled from UK and the person in question has been placed in quarantine.

Highlighting the danger of the new variant, Dr. Samaraweera said that new variant has a higher infection rate than the strain of COVID-19 spreading in Sri Lanka.

And so, new measures to take against the spread are being discussed by along with discussions to bring changes to the current measures and make them more strict than before.
