The total COVID-19 death toll in the country has risen to 48 after another person dies in the Maldives.

One Online has learned that a 69-year-old local man being treated at Dharumavantha Hospital has died due to complication with COVID-19.

The funeral arrangements for the deceased are currently being made at the Hulhumale’ New Cemetery. The exact time of the burial is unclear at this time.

According to the Health Protection Agency (HPA) guidelines, the funeral requirements are carried out by military officers with strong health and safety procedures in place.

Including today’s death, a total of 41 locals and seven foreigners have passed away due to COVID-19 in the Maldives. The most recent COVID-related death before today’s death was on 1 December 2020.

The first reported COVID death in the Maldives was that of an 83-year-old local woman on 29 April 2020.
