Minister of Tourism, Abdulla Mausoom, has said that yesterday had the highest tourist arrivals since the Maldives reopened its borders on 15 July 2020.
In a tweet sent out yesterday, Minister Mausoom congratulated the travel and tourism industry on another new record of daily arrivals to the Maldives.
“Today tourist arrivals 2900 plus. How do we thank you all for bringing daily arrivals from zero to near 3000 in just 20 weeks? Thank you all very very much!!” Minister Mausoom said.
While a new arrival record was made since the COVID-19 pandemic, yesterday alone saw three airlines resume flights to the Maldives. They are, British Airways, Air Seychelles and the national airlines of the Kazakhstan, Air Astana.
The national airlines of Seychelles and Kazakhstan have started flights to the Maldives for the first time.
Before yesterday, the highest recorded tourist arrivals on a single day was 29 November 2020 with 2,299. The Tourism Minister has previously said that the tourist visits would reach 500,000 by 25 December.
