A local man has passed away due to COVID-19 related complications raising the total number of COVID-related deaths in the Maldives to 46.

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has confirmed that a 77-year-old local man passed away today at 2:09 p.m. at the Hulhumale’ Medical Facility.

While the COVID-19 death toll in the Maldives has risen to 46, this also marks the eight COVID-related death this month.

So far, 39 locals and seven foreigners have passed away from the illness in the country that includes six Bangladeshi nationals and a man from Philippines.

The first COVID-19 death in the country was an 83-year-old woman who passed away in 29 April 2020.

A total of 12,578 cases of COVID-19 has been found in the Maldives with 341 people currently in Isolation Facilities and 82 people in hospitals with 11,559 recoveries.
