The Maldivian government has said that Sri Lanka has assured that there are no obstructions in exporting local fish to Sri Lanka.

Following the changed to Sri Lanka’s fish import policies, a shipment of Maldivian fish was held at customs earlier this month. However, that shipment has since been cleared.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Haa Alifu Hoarafushi Airport yesterday, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih said that Foreign Ministry is working to address the challenges in exporting dry and salted fish and now have assured that fish can be exported from Maldives to Sri Lanka without any challenges.

Foreign Minister, Abdulla Shahid tweeted yesterday saying that he welcomes the decision by the Sri Lankan authorities that confirmed there is no ban on the import of Maldivian fish and fish products to Sri Lanka which is a crucial source of income and livelihood for Maldivians.

While it has been confirmed that there is no ban on Maldivian fish products, the duty tax from some products have been raised in Sri Lanka.
