Health Minister, Ahmed Naseem has said that the COVID-19 vaccine issue will be resolved in January or February.

Speaking on PSM’s “Daulathuge Budget 2021” (State Budget 2021) program last night, Health Minister Naseem said that they are in talks with the World Health Organization as well to acquire the COVID-19 vaccine to the Maldives.

He said that “with God’s Will, I think, at the end of January or in early February will resolve the vaccine issue. Now we are in talks will WHO. Now we have to settle the vaccine storage.”

Minister Naseem said that vaccine will be coming in shipments for frontline workers, elderly first before going to the general public. And the State Budget for the next year will cover the acquisition of the vaccine.

Numerous countries are working to buy COVID-19 vaccine while a number of countries have prepared and have started testing vaccines. Reports say that most successful vaccine is currently the one from the US pharmaceutical company Pfizer.

The COVID vaccine developed by Pfizer and Germany’s BioNTech show perfect working vaccine with the second dose after seven days in 90 percent of the test subjects and protection is guaranteed after 28 days from the vaccination, according to the vaccine team.
