Russian national airline, Aeroflot, has increased the number of flights to the Maldives.
While the airline resumed flights between Moscow and Velana International Airport with four flights a week, Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) said that Aeroflot will have eight flights a week to the Maldives
Aeroflot is currently the only flight flying directly between Russian and the Maldives. However, three more Russian airlines are set to start flights to the Maldives before the end of the year according to the Tourism Ministry. They are, Nordwind, Azur Air and Rossiya Airlines.
Since the Maldives reopened its borders on 15 July 2020 after closing as a preventive measure against the spread of COVID-19, the country has seen a high number of Russian tourists that totals to 9,519 tourists as of 4 November.
