The total number of COVID-19-related deaths in the Maldives has risen to 39 after a local dies from the illness.

Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC) said that an 88-year-old local man had passed away at 3:50 p.m. today at the Hulhumale’ Medical Facility.

As this most recent death marks a total of 39 COVID-related deaths in the country, 33 locals and six foreigners have passed away from the illness in the Maldives. They are five Bangladeshi nationals and a man from Philippines.

The first reported death of COVID-19 in the Maldives was an 83-year-old woman on 29 April 2020.

As of yesterday, the total number of COVID-19 cases in the country are at 11,893 with 185 people in isolation facilities and 56 people being treated at the hospitals. And 11,010 people have recovered from the illness.
