Minister of Tourism, Dr. Abdulla Mausoom has said that two Russian airlines are going to start flights to the Maldives very soon.

Along with the Russian airline, Aeroflot, 12 international airlines are currently flying to the Maldives.

In an interview with One Online last night, Minister Maussom said that many tourists are now informed that the Maldives is a safe travel destination which in turn increase the number of tourists visiting the Maldives.

Noting that the highest number of tourists have visited from Europe since the Maldives reopened its borders, Minister Mausoom said that the number of Russian tourists visiting the Maldives are going to increase as well as two Russian airlines are going to start flights to the Maldives as well.

The next Russian airline to start flight operations to the Maldives is Nordwind, which is set to start two scheduled flights a week between Moscow and Velana International Airport on 28 October which would be followed by Azur Air on 1 November.

Minister Mausoom said that the German airline, Lufthansa is going to start flights this month as well. And on 27 October, FlyDubai is going to operate daily flights.

The most recent airline to begin flights to the Maldives is British Airways.

Since the Maldivian borders reopened on 15 July 2020, 29,130 tourists has visited the country as of the first week of October with the highest number of tourists visiting from Russian and UAE with 8,000 tourists from those two countries alone.
