National Security Committee of the parliament has passed to appoint Dr. Asim Ahmed as the Maldivian representative for the World Trade Organization (WTO).

Dr. Asim was approved for the position after the President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih nominated his name to the parliament. He is also the Permanent Representative of the Maldivian Mission to the United Nations in Geneva.

He has previously served as the Education Minister and the President of the Local Government Authority. Dr. Asim has also provided technical assistance to the UNDP, UNICEF and other international organizations.

Dr. Asim has a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Politics along with a Master’s in Philosophy in Development Studies, a doctorate in Philosophy in Social Policy.
