The number of tourists that visited the Maldives last month had risen by 25 percent compared to the month before.
Statistics released by the Maldives Immigration show that 9,538 tourists visited the Maldives in September while 7,628 tourists visited the Maldives in August.
And so, the total number of tourist visits since the Maldives reopened its borders on 15 July 2020 are at 18,867.
The statistics also show that the daily average of tourists has increased by 45 percent. An average of 100 tourists per day in July to 218 tourists per day in August and 318 tourists per day in September.
The highest number of tourists in September arrived in the Maldives from Russia with 2,065 tourists while only 423 tourists from Russia visited the Maldives in August.
It is believed that the uptick in the numbers is the Russian national airline, Aeroflot, resuming flight operations to the Maldives after they were suspended amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
August 2020 saw the highest number of tourists visiting the Maldives from UAE but the numbers have dropped by 37 percent with 1029 tourists from UAE visiting in September compared to the 1,627 tourists in August.
While number of tourists visiting the Maldives from UK, Spain and France also went down in August, the tourists visiting from USA, Brazil, Germany, India and Egypt went up in September.
