Tourism Minister, Dr. Abdulla Mausoom has said that tourism can be developed in the future at Addu City, Fuvahmulah City and Huvadhoo Atoll.

Speaking at the agreement signing today between Gan International Airport and Island Aviation Services to begin seaplane travel between Addu City and Huvadhoo Atoll, the Tourism Minister said that the Tourism policy is to shape the industry in a way that brings tourism closer to the people and directly benefit the people.

He said that the government policy is to make sure owners of guesthouses, hotels, resorts and restaurants, are Maldivians and connect the various businesses of the tourism industry to each other.

Minister Dr. Mausoom said that when the seaplane operations start between Addu and Huvadhoo, the companies may take a loss in the first year because the airplane business needs 6,000 beds and the region currently has 2,400 beds. However, he said, the government would start work of reaching 6,000 beds in the region in the future.

The Minister of Tourism said that it would take flight operations in the area to promote tourism and so the decision to start operations even at a loss during this time was a great sacrifice by the government.
