Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdulla Shahid has reaffirmed the Maldivian stance on the question of Palestine and the plight of the Rohingya Muslim Myanmar and vowed to do everything possible to help the struggle.

Speaking at the General Debate of the 75th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, Minister Shahid said that the biggest threat to the current world is terrorism and it would take unity among the nations along with embracing technology to stop it.

The Maldivian Foreign Minister called on the world to help grant Palestine its rights that they are crying out for. He called on the nations to help achieve the “Two-State Solution” and declare Jerusalem the capital of Palestine.

Addressing the plight of the Rohingya, Minister Shahid said that Rohingya Muslims continue to suffer even more so with the current state of the world and want stand by while they get massacred.

He said that the Maldives will always advocate on behalf of these two struggles, even at the International Courts.

Minister Shahid further noted that all UN countries need to develop unity, peace and fairness and make is a principle of the UN to build relations between countries.

As it celebrates 75 years of existence, despite the need to reform its operations to better suit the current dynamics, “the UN still presents the best hope for humanity” said Minister Shahid and reaffirmed the commitment of the Maldives to the UN.
