Immigration has said that the number of tourist arrivals have gone up by 61 percent since the Maldivian borders have been on 15 July after they were closed on 27 March 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

A tweet sent out by the Maldives Immigration said that a total of 13,516 tourists arrived in the Maldives in the first two months after the reopening with a 61 percent increase in the second month.

Statistics from 1 to 15 September show 4,458 tourists have visited the Maldives with the highest number coming from UAE.

While a number of countries closed down their borders and stopped flight operations, some nations have started reopening their borders.
