The total number of people who has tested positive for COVID-19 in Gaafu Dhaalu Hoadehdhoo has risen to 44 with four recoveries.

An official of the Health Ministry has confirmed to One Online that 44 people have tested positive in Hoadehdhoo. No further details were offered by the official.

Statistics from the Hoadehdhoo Health Center’s dashboard show that four people have recovered in Hoadehdhoo leaving 38 active cases with two elderly people are being treated at the Gaafu Alifu Atoll COVID facility.

A total of 32 houses on the island are currently under monitoring while 344 samples have been collected for pending with the results for 50 samples still pending.

The first reported case of COVID-19 in the island was on 2 September 2020 where four people of the same family in home quarantine together were confirmed positive when they were tested before being released.

Health Protection Agency (HPA) is also conducting a special investigation on Hoadehdhoo but it is yet unclear how the illness spread on the island. However, all that have tested positive have come in contact with each other and so it is believed to be a local transmission according to HPA.
