The number of deaths related to COVID-19 continues to rise as another person passed away today raising the figure to 28.

Health Protection Agency (HPA) said that a 73-year-old local man admitted at the Hulhumale’ facility passed away this morning at 5:11 a.m.

So far, 22 locals and six foreigners have passed away from the illness in the Maldives that include five Bangladeshi nationals and a Philippine national. This month alone, 12 people have passed away from COVID-19 in the Maldives, one Bangladeshi national and 11 Maldivians.

The first COVID-19 death was reported on the 29 April 2020 after an 83-year-old woman passed away.

The total number of cases in the Maldives is currently at 6,912 with 2,588 people undergoing treatment and 4,297 recoveries.
