In the past 24 hours, 78 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in the Maldives raising the total number of cases in the country to 5,572.

Health Protection Agency (HPA) said that from 6 p.m. yesterday to 6 p.m. today, 90 people have been confirmed recovered in the past 24 hours raising the total recoveries in the country to 3,010. There are 2.540 people undergoing treatment for the illness.

Meanwhile, 46 Maldivians have tested positive along with 25 Bangladeshi nationals, four Indian nationals, a Nepalese national and two Sri Lankan nationals.

Statistics from the HPA show that 1,508 people are at the isolation facilities while 150 people are at the hospitals getting treatment.

After a spike in the number of cases late last month with daily numbers being above 100, this is the first time the number of cases has dropped under 100 since Tuesday where 66 people were confirmed positive.

So far, 22 people have died due to the illness in the Maldives. They are 17 locals, four Bangladeshi nationals and a person from Philippines.
