The trial following the two charges against the former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom regarding the leasing of Raa Atoll Fuggiri through the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) is set to begin on Sunday.

The former President is charged with money laundering and accepting bribes and the charges were sent to be processed at the Criminal Court on 28 June 2020.

The two hearings are scheduled at the court house at 10 a.m. this Sunday.

Prosecutor General’s Office (PG Office) has previously said that President Yameen acquired USD 1,117,000 from Ahmed Riza through his influence of his position and had lined to launder that money through Sun Investment and Sun Construction and Engineering companies.

The PG Office said that they would be working to recover USD 38,334,560 to the state.

Former President Yameen is currently serving five years in prison after being found guilty of money laundering in connection to the MMPRC corruptions and embezzlement case.
