The legal team of the victim of a rape on board a safari yacht outside Hulhumale’ has threatened to take action against the media outlets that released the information of the Kenyan victim.
Following the rape case reported to the Maldives Police Service, the victim has hired Riza and Co to protect their rights. And the firm has Shafiza Riza and Nuruban Fahumee representing their client.
A statement issued by the legal team said that the Maldives Police Service, Ministry of Gender Family and Social Service, Parliament and the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) has been informed that their client would have their attorneys at all conversations.
The statement also requested that broadcast media, online and print media to gain their permission before publishing or releasing any information of their client.
In reference to the Mendhuru Online article on 22 July, the legal team said that their client has neither met nor know anything about the former Legal Advisor at the President’s Office, Azima Shukoor, and never had any contact with her.
