Maldives Police Service has arrested 22 migrant workers after a violent protest in a resort being constructed in Vaavu Atoll.
Police confirmed that 22 migrant workers were arrested after they obstructed work and protested violently in the island being developed as a resort.
Vaavu Velidhoo Magistrate Court has since set a 15 day remand period, during which the case will be investigated further.
Police added that during the protest last night, no person was injured but added that their supervisor's room was vandalized.
On July 2nd, migrant workers at Bodufinolhu had also protested and taken local workers on the island hostage. The violent protest ended with 19 migrant workers being arrested by police following clashes between them and the police.
