Two teachers along with a student at Rehendhi School in Hulhumale’ has tested positive for COVID-19.
Deputy Director General of Health Protection Agency (HPA), Thasleema Usman has confirmed that there have been positive cases connected to the school but did not give a number of teachers and students.
However, a high-ranking official of Rehendhi School has told One Online that a Primary Grade teacher and an 8th Grade teacher have tested positive but since the school is teaching the Grades 9 and up, neither of the teachers were attending school.
One Online has also learned that they tested positive during the testing after family members in the same household were confirmed positive.
The student who tested positive for COVID-19 is also a student in a grade below 9 so they were not attending school either.
All three have now been quarantined.
Schools resumed with precautionary measures on 1 July with the islands without any COVID-19 cases teaching all grades while the schools in the Male’ area teaching the grades 9 and above.
Students are required to wear masks to school and keep physical distance at all times. The Education Ministry has also reduced the number of students in each class and made it mandatory for all school staff to wear masks at all times.
