Schools in the Maldives have reopened in the "new normal" with strong protective measures.
Teaching at the schools have resumed after a three-month hiatus due to the COVID-19 lock down in the Maldives. The schools across the country were closed in early March although the Education Ministry had conducted classes via the television and online.
While normal education hours resumed at the islands without any COVID-19 cases, the schools in the Male’ Area are going to teach four days a week with a maximum of four hours a day. The fifth day of the week is reserved for teachers to prepare the classes for the following week.
Also, the schools are going to teach four subjects a day and the parts not covered in the classrooms are taught online via Google Classroom. Teachers also have to teach every third week online.
New normal is also going to see students going into schools after health check and the schools themselves will have the amenities to wash their hands. The classrooms are now going to have fewer students with physical distancing while both teachers and staff of the school need to wear masks at all times.
