Speaking at the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) press conference, Dr. Mohamed Faishan has said that if the latest person who died with COVID-19 in the Maldives did not have a stroke, it would be an asymptomatic patient.

The second COVID-19 patient to die was a Bangladeshi national who was receiving treatment at Dharumavantha Hospital. The 33 year old died from complications after a fit, and was tested for COVID-19 as per the general regulations.

Dr. Faishan noted that the patient showed no symptoms of COVID-19 when brought to IGMH. Upon the completion of a CT scan at IGMH, an internal bleeding in his brain was discovered due to the rupture of a blood vessel in his brain. The doctor explained that the fit was a direct result of the internal bleeding.

The doctor further noted that even though the patient died due to the fit, according to the WHO classification it will be counted as a COVID-19 death.
