After two more Maldivians and four foreigners test positive for COVID-19 in the Maldives, the total number of cases in the country has risen to 481.

Health Protection Agency (HPA) said that the six new people who tested positive include an 80-year-old Maldivian woman. Sources say that the woman was admitted at the Noonu Atoll Hospital on Wednesday due to poor health and was transferred to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) last night.

After treatment at IGMH, the woman was discharged today before here test results came back this evening. The woman was in Male’ City two months ago for a leg surgery.

Sources say that the woman showed no symptoms of COVID-19 when she tested positive for the illness. And over 30 people in contact with her have been isolated including 23 staff at the Noonu Atoll Hospital in Manadhoo.

In the past 24 hours alone, 85 people have tested positive in the Maldives; 78 of them are Bangladeshi nationals.

Only 17 people have recovered from COVID-19 in the Maldives so far.
