The Male’ area lock down of Male’ City, Hulhumale’ and Vilingili has been extended by 14 days under the authority of the Director General of Public Health.

Greater Male’ Region – consisting of Maldives Capital; Male’ City along with Hulhumale’ and Vilimale’ came under total lockdown on 15 April after the initial case was reported in Male' City.

While the first phase of the lockdown expires tomorrow, a statement issued by Health Protection Agency (HPA) noted that the Director General of Public Health Maimoona Aboobakuru has decided to extend the lockdown by an additional 14 days.

With this, the lockdown will be active till May 14th.

During the lockdown, public transport in the region is also put on a halt with no one being allowed in or out of Male', Villimale', Hulhumale', Thilafushi and Gulhifalhu.

However essential workers and permit holders are free from these rules and regulations during the lockdown.

While 250 cases of COVID-19 has been reported so far, most of them are foreign nationals.
