Media outlets in China have reported that the country has decided to donate USD 20 million to the World Health Organization (WHO) to help the countries with poor health systems that are being affected by the COVID-19 Corona Virus.
Chinese news outlet Xinhua reported that China highly appreciates WHO's understanding and support to the country's work in epidemic prevention and control.
“Since the outbreak of the COVID-19, the WHO, under the leadership of Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, has played an important role in promoting other countries to strengthen their prevention awareness and tackle the epidemic in a scientific and rational way, and in helping relevant countries improve their health system capacity, which have been widely recognized by the international community.” Xinhua news reported.
While the disease have been found in 95 countries across the world, 103,204 cases have been reported globally and 3,507 people have died so far according to the WHO.
Maldivian government have begun strengthening the precautionary measures after two expatriates working at Kuredu Island Resort in Lhaviyani Atoll were tested positive to the disease.
