Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdulla Shahid, has said that the seven Maldivian national in Wuhan, China, are currently traveling to New Delhi, India on a special flight to be quarantined in India to verify their health status before bringing them home to the Maldives.
Taking to Twitter moments ago, Minister Shahid said that the Maldivians in Wuhan, the city most affected by the Novel Corona Virus, are being evacuated on a special flight of the Indian Airlines to be quarantined in New Delhi for a specific duration.
Minister Shahid tagged the Indian Prime Minister, External Minister and thanked the Indian and Chinese Ambassadors for their role in making the arrangements.
In Tweet, Minister Shahid said that this is an action that “reflects historic ties of kinship and synergy” in the India First policies.

At a previous press conference at the President’s Office, the Foreign Minister said that the Maldivian Embassy in China has provided assistance to the Maldivians in Wuhan City in various aspects and has been working to bring them back since day one. But since the Wuhan City has been closed down, it is not an easy operation but assured success in the evacuation.
