Inspector of Correctional Service (ICS), Ahmed Mohamed has refuted the statement made by Maldives Correctional Service in their statement yesterday regarding the protest by the remand detainees in Maafushi Prison.

The Inspector of Correctional Service is appointed to report the state of prisons to the Home Minister.

Ahmed Mohamed took to Twitter today stating that they were monitoring a conflict between the remand detainees and the prison guards.

And so, inspect the situation and a search of the cells, a visit was made to the prison yesterday upon the request of the Commissioner of Prisons and observed the search. However, when the search operation was obstruction, force was used against the detainees.

Correctional Service has ignored repeated calls from the media regarding the situation at the Maafushi Prison before releasing as statement saying that the remand detainees are unhappy with the guards and three food at them. And the guards responded with patience to explain the situation and no confrontation took place between the two sides.

The statement from the Correctional Service said that the ICS and the Commissioner of Prisons, Abdulla Munaz along with the Assistant Commissioner, Mohamed Asif visited the prison to check on the state of the remand detainees.

And the officers of the Maldives Police Service visited to investigate a case of assault on a remand detainee by his cell mates, according to the statement by the Correctional Service.
