A man has been arrested for a hit and run, after hitting a police officer and trying to escape.

According to Maldives Police Service, their officers had tried to stop the man as he was transporting goods illegally on a motorcycle. The 34 year old man was arrested this morning, on charges of obstructing police duty and attacking an officer.

Police had first tried to stop the man, and requested for his information. However he was arrested after he refused to cooperate and tried to run after hitting a police officer.

His license has also been withheld.

Police is investigating the case further.
