Five people have been injured along with eight people in custody following violent confrontations in Gaafu Dhaalu Rathafandhoo on Sunday and Monday.

Maldives Police Service said that two fights at the island are connected and that five people have been treated for various degrees of injuries. Although the details of the injuries are unclear at this time.

Four people were injured on Sunday and one person was injured on Monday according to the police.

Talking to One Online, President of the Rathafandhoo Island Council, Hunaif Aslam said that two of the people sustained head trauma and received stitches while another was stabbed on the arm with a screwdriver. However, none of their injures are serious and was released after treatment.

Island Council President Hunaif said that no further confrontations have taken place since the two on Sunday and Monday.

Following the incidents, police arrested eight local men with court orders on Monday night. The men in custody are of the ages 21, 24, 26 and 27.
