Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has decided to investigate a disciplinary case of the Chief Judge of the Criminal Court, Ahmed Hailam.

The announcement of the investigation was made by the press statement issued late this morning. The statement said that an emergency meeting of the JSC was held today where it was decided to proceed with the investigation and an investigation team for the case has been established as well.

While the Chief Judge of the Criminal Court is being investigated by the JSC, an alleged image posted by him on the Court’s Viber Group has hit social media in relation to the Victory Day celebrated yesterday.

The alleged image by Judge Hailam depicts President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and the former President, Mohamed Nasheed along with Abdulla Luthufee and the mercenaries of the invading force of 3 November 1988 being dragged by the neck via chains. The chains are held by honorable Hussain Adam who gave his life to protect the gates of the now MNDF HQ the day.

With the alleged leak and facing the JSC investigation, Judge Hailam is also presiding over the money laundering case against the former President, Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom. The next hearing in that case is set for tomorrow.

Judge Hailam was appointed as the Chief Judge of the Criminal Court by President Yameen in January 2018.
