An agreement has been signed China’s Dongfang Electric International Corporation to install a 20-megawatt generator in Addu City.

Ministry of Economic Development said that the project was award to the company without a bid after the Dongfang company proposed the project to the government under the regulation to propose projects to the government.

The Ministry said that the government decides to green light the project without a bid based on financial and technical capabilities of the companies. And the project contributes to Addu City, a key location in the government’s economic development plan. The Economic Ministry said that the project was green lit for Dongfang company after three months of discussions among the relevant government bodies.

Economic Ministry said that Dongfang Electric Corporation will be handling all aspects of acquiring the funds for the project valued at USD 37,585,957.

Once the project is completed, it is going to solve the electricity issues facing Addu City, according to the Ministry, and result in more efficiency for the government projects planned for the city.

Projects planned by the current administration for Addu City include the further development tourism, airport and the commercial port.
