President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has forwarded two names to the Parliament regarding the appointment of a Judge to the Supreme Court.
The President today forwarded the names of Mahaz Ali Zahir and Fathimath Dhiyana Saeed to the Parliament.
The President has done this under the powers vested in him under article 148 (a) of the Maldivian Constitution, authorizing the President to appoint judges to the Supreme Court after consulting the JSC and with the approval of the majority of the People's Majlis present and voting.
The Judicial Service Commission had also highly recommended Dhiyana and Mahaz as prospectives to the Supreme Court after conducting an interview of them for the vacant post.
Parliament will also call for vote on those who were interviewed by the JSC. Current High Court Judges Shuaib Hassan Zakariyya, Mohamed Niyaz and Ali Sameer are among those who applied for the post.
A position of the Supreme Court bench was left vacant after former Justice Abdulla Didi was found guilty of a disciplinary issue, following which he was dismissed by the Parliament.
