The Maldives have gotten nominations in six categories at the World Travel Awards (WTA).

A statement issued by the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMRC) states that Maldives has six nominations at the WTA including some of the most prestigious awards.

Maldives have nominations in the following categories:

  • World’s Leading Beach Destination
  • World’s Leading Destination
  • World’s Leading Dive Destination
  • World’s Leading Honeymoon Destination
  • World’s Leading Island Destination
  • World’s Most Romantic Destination

MMPRC said that the countries in competition with the Maldives in the category of Leading Destination in the Indian Ocean are Sri Lanka, Costa Rica, Morocco and Mauritius.

WTM is the most prestigious award in the tourism industry inaugurated in 1993. The award celebrates special achievement in the tourism sector. The winners of the award are selected with the vote from travel agencies and experts around the world.

The 26th Edition of the World Travel Awards is set to be held in Muscat, Oman, at the Royal Opera House on 28 November 2019.
