Minister of Environment, Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan has departed to Switzerland to take part in the United Nations Conference on Trade And Development (UNCTAD).
Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan departed from Velana International Airport this morning to take part in the UN Trade Forum “Sustainable Development Goals and Climate Change” held from 9-13 September in Geneva.
Ministry of Environment said that the Environment Minister is making the trip as the special envoy of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on the invitation of the Secretary General of UNCTAD, Mukhisa Kituyi.
According to the Ministry, the Environment Minister is set to make an address on the climate change and its effects on small island nations in regards to economy and sustainable development at the forum.
UNCTAD will host discussions on ongoing and possible effects on trade and development due to climate change along with collaborative efforts among the nations to minimize the impact.
