The fifth session of the UN Environment Assembly currently taking place in Nairobi, Kenya, has passed to draft an international agreement against plastic.

At the Assembly with 193 countries, a resolution was brought forth to give legal standings in the efforts against the environmental damage caused by plastic products.

The Maldives gave full support to the resolution and is among the 81 countries that agree on the importance of having an international agreement against single-use plastics.

Information on the national phaseout plan for single use plastic led by the Maldivian government was shared with the world leaders taking part in the Environment Assembly.

With 193 UN member countries, the fifth UNEA is the largest environmental assembly established under the goals of Sustainable Development 2030 as a platform to facilitate environmental projects.
