The hearing set for today in the trial of the former President, Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has started at the Criminal Court.

The hearing scheduled for 10:30 a.m. started at 11 a.m. after a delay of half an hour.

At the hearing today, the prosecution will continue on with witness testimonies. The first witness to take the stand today is the Deputy CEO and Director of Operations at the Bank of Maldives (BML), Mohamed Shareef.

He is being asked by the prosecution regarding the escrow account opened at BML.

This is the third hearing in the open trial of the former President in the charge of money laundering.

The last hearing was held on 22 August 2019 where the President of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), Muavviz Rasheed, former Vice President, Ahmed Adeeb Abdul Gafoor and the former Managing Director of the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), Abdulla Ziyath testified against the former President.
