Former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has presented defence evidence to the Criminal Court in relation to the money laundering charge against him.

Part of the former President’s legal team, Adam Shameem tweeted that the defence filed their evidence at the court yesterday.

The prosecution has presented documented evidence against the former President which includes bank transactions and the agreement between the former President Yameen and the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) along with his statement to the police, the ACC report, Yameen’s statement to the ACC, a letter, statements from an account under the name of Moosa Zameer, Escrow Account report, letter from the President’s Office and the MMPRC Audit Report.

The witnesses named by the prosecution include the former President of the ACC, Hassan Luthufee, the current President of ACC, Muavviz Rasheed, former Vice President, Ahmed Adeeb Abdul Gafoor, and the former Tourism Minister, Moosa Zameer.

The preliminary hearing in the case against the former President was held on 21 July at the Criminal Court and was broadcasted nationwide. The hearing saw the presiding judge give five days to present the defence evidence and scheduled a hearing on 4 August to take witness accounts.
