Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed has dismissed rumors alleging that a residency program is set to be implemented in Noonu Atoll.

Minister Saeed's statement, made in a post on X today, comes in response to a report published by the Maldives Independent. The report claimed that Henley & Partners, a firm globally renowned for managing such programs, had been contracted to run a residency program as part of the township development project in Noonu Atoll’s Dhigufaru Falhu and Dhaunufaru.

Denying these claims, Minister Saeed stated that political disagreements should not turn into campaigns targeting investors. He emphasized that opposition-led activities aimed at prospective investors in the Maldives should cease for the sake of public welfare and the opportunities generated by investments.

Saeed noted that halting the spread of false narratives and intimidation directed at incoming investors is vital for the country's future. The minister remarked that for parties looking to capitalize on such matters in global business competition, such false stories serve as sweet music.

Highlighting that tourism is a foundational pillar of the Maldivian economy and an ever-evolving sector, the minister stated that the industry cannot be built on hatred, lies, and envy. He assured that Maldivian law will prevail in the country and that no unconstitutional acts will take place. Therefore, Saeed urged an end to spreading fake news and hostility instead of verifying facts.

Meanwhile, speaking at a PNF meeting held last Thursday night, former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom also alleged that a similar residency program was planned to be implemented in Rasmalé in partnership with Henley & Partners.
