India has ranked second on the list of the highest number of tourists to visit the Maldives this year.
Speaking at a press conference by the Tourism Ministry, Minister Ali Waheed said that the Indian tourists visiting the Maldives have gone up nearly a 100 percent; the first time such growth has been recorded.
Statistics show a 21 percent increase from the previous year with 11,345 tourists visiting the Maldives in June 2019. A total of 862,589 tourists have visited the Maldives at the end of June. It is an increment of 18.7 percent compared to the same period of 2018.
While India had the second highest number of tourists visiting the Maldives, the top of the list is China with 140,265 Chinese tourists visiting the Maldives.
The third on the list is Italy with 75,376 tourists followed by Germany with 69,237 tourists and 64,892 tourists from the UK.
This past June, the number of Chinese tourists went up by 16.3 percent along with the number of Italian tourists by 33.7 and German tourists by 19.7 percent.
The number of tourists from the UK visiting the Maldives in June 2019 had gone up by 12.6 percent.
