Speaker of the Parliament, the former President Mohamed Nasheed has said that decision to investigate those who give false information at the parliament and send their cases for prosecution was not made to punish them.

The case against the Deputy CEO of the Bank of Maldives (BML), Mohamed Shareef for lying at the parliament was sent to Maldives Police Service for investigation.

Speaking at the parliament today, Speaker Nasheed said that the decision to investigate when the people summoned to the different committees of the parliament was not made to have a specific person investigated but to have people tell the committees the truth.

Regarding the case against the Deputy CEO of BML, Nasheed said that when a case against a BML official was filed, a letter was sent to parliament stating that the comments at the committee were made true to the information available at the time.

Nasheed said that the case is set to be reviewed after the letter and a decision will be made after meeting with the head of the finance committee.
