Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) deputy chairperson Hissan Hussain has resigned from his post.

Hissan, who represented the Thuladhoo constituency in the 19th Parliament, was appointed as deputy chairperson on 24 July 2024.

MDP deputy administrative chairperson Ibrahim Waheed (Ibury) told Vaguthu today that Hissan resigned because the position no longer served a purpose following MDP President Abdulla Shahid’s resignation.

Shahid resigned as MDP president to contest the party’s presidential primary, in which Hissan is supporting his candidacy.

MDP deputy chairperson for Malé, Ahmed Abdullah, also resigned yesterday to participate in Shahid’s presidential primary campaign.
