A fire that broke out late last night at Flat 110 in Hulhumalé Phase I has left several people injured.

The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) reported receiving the emergency call at around 1:10 AM, and firefighters successfully managed to extinguish the blaze by 1:23 AM. According to the MNDF, two children and three adults sustained varying degrees of injuries due to the incident and were immediately transported to the hospital.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) confirmed that five out of the seven Maldivians residing in the flat are currently receiving medical treatment. Citing Hulhumalé Hospital, the NDMA noted that the household consists of two children under the age of 18 and five adults, one of whom suffered burns covering 12 percent of their arms and legs.

The authority stated that the apartment sustained catastrophic damage and was burned to the extent of being completely uninhabitable. Preliminary findings suggest that the fire was triggered by a "tool melting device" that caught fire in the apartment's living room.

The NDMA is currently working to arrange temporary housing and essential humanitarian aid for the displaced family. Additionally, due to heavy smoke rendering two other apartments on the first and third floors unsafe to occupy, the NDMA provided temporary shelter last night for eight more individuals from neighboring units, comprising six adults and two four-year-old children.
