President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the Government will amend the Police Act to remove legal obstacles that hinder the Maldives Police Service from delivering effective public services.

Speaking at the official ceremony marking the 93rd anniversary of the Maldives Police Service on Sunday, the President said the Government remains committed to strengthening the institution and will support any legislative changes proposed following a comprehensive review by the police.

He said the Government would back reforms needed to improve policing and enhance services for the public.

The President also outlined several development initiatives for the police, including transforming the Police Training Centre in Vaanee, Dhaalu Atoll, into a state-of-the-art facility, advancing work on Iskandharkoshi II, constructing a modern police headquarters in Malé City, and building a new police station in Hulhumalé Phase II.

In addition, he said the Government would allocate funding to increase police recruitment and reserve a dedicated quota of permanent housing for police officers under upcoming housing projects.

The President reaffirmed that strengthening the police and defence services remains a national priority, expressing appreciation for the sacrifices made by police officers in maintaining peace and security across the Maldives.
