The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has amended its investigation procedures to strengthen investigations and speed up the handling of corruption cases.

The ACC said the changes are aimed at ensuring complaints are investigated and concluded more efficiently while safeguarding the constitutional right of individuals to have cases resolved without undue delay.

Under the amended rules, government institutions will also be able to submit cases directly to the commission. The changes establish clearer requirements for registering complaints and create the post of Registrar to oversee the registration and assessment of cases.

The revised procedures also introduce a system for prioritising complaints based on factors such as the public interest, the potential financial loss to the state and the risk of evidence being destroyed. In addition, the rules empower the commission to develop investigation procedures in line with directions issued by the Prosecutor General.

The amended regulations will come into effect on 26 August, two months after their publication in the Government Gazette.
