The Maldives Meteorological Service has announced that rainy weather will affect all parts of the country over the next 24 hours.

Speaking to local news outlet "One" today, meteorologist Abdulla Hafiz stated that while rain is expected nationwide, heavy showers are particularly anticipated to impact the central and southern atolls.

The northern atolls are expected to experience less severe rainfall, though scattered showers remain likely. Hafiz noted that the weather is projected to improve slightly from tomorrow, although light showers may persist for the next two to three days. The heaviest rainfall remains concentrated in the central and southern regions, while overall wind speeds across the country are expected to subside starting tomorrow.

Seas are predicted to be rough on average across the central and northern areas, whereas the southern atolls will generally experience calmer sea conditions. However, conditions could deteriorate during squalls, with wind gusts potentially accelerating up to 40 mph in the central and southern parts of the country. In contrast, average wind speeds in the north are expected to hold steady between 10 to 20 mph, with no major squalls detected today.

Residents, particularly those in the central and southern islands, are advised to remain cautious as localized heavy downpours remain a distinct possibility. In line with these forecasts, the meteorological office has already issued a White Alert stretching from HA. Atoll to Dh. Atoll, warning of sustained wind speeds between 19 to 24 mph and rough seas.
