The government has decided to add 710 housing units to the 3,260-unit housing project being developed by BML, bringing the total number of planned units to nearly 4,000, according to Government Spokesperson Mohamed Hussain Shareef (Mundhu).
Speaking at the Presser with the Spox briefing held at the President’s Office on Saturday, Mundhu said the expansion forms part of the government’s efforts to address the housing shortage in the Greater Malé Region.
The original project, undertaken by BML through its subsidiary, BML Affordable Homes Leasing Private Limited, includes the construction of 2,960 housing units in Hulhumalé Phases One and Three and 300 units in Vilimalé.
Mundhu noted that design work for all but one of the projects has been completed and approved, with implementation already underway. He added that agreements for the additional 710 units are currently being finalised.
Once completed, the expanded scheme is expected to deliver close to 4,000 housing units in the Greater Malé Region.
